ZenGest to the Rescue!
ZenGest is by far one of my favourite blends from dōTERRA. It's a digestion blend that is a combination of ginger, peppermint, caraway, coriander, anise, tarragon and fennel. It has a sweet licorice scent to it because of the anise and fennel, but it's mild enough that a black-licorice-hater like me can handle it! hahaWhen I was getting my oils from a different company in the past, I had tried the other company's digestion blend, but I really didn't identify with the scent of the oil. This one, on the other hand, is instantly comforting and is extremely effective.
Essential oils are used aromatically, topically and internally.
Aromatically, ZenGest is great for motion sickness and a friend of mine has had great success using it aromatically (by diffusing it) to calm her morning sickness in early pregnancy.
Topically, I use ZenGest in a roller bottle on my abdomen when I feel bloated or "just not quite right." My husband uses it for the same, and we have used it on the kids a number of times as well.
Internally is my favourite way to use ZenGest. I remember attending a class about dōTERRA essential oils where the person leading the class said that you could put a drop of ZenGest under your tongue to instantly resolve an episode of heartburn and reflux. I did NOT believe her, but when I had an episode of heartburn a few weeks later, I gave it a try .... and she was right!!! My husband uses it for the same thing as well as a few of my coworkers. In fact, one of my coworkers has begun to take a drop twice daily to prevent her heartburn from coming on and she's having great success.
I also use ZenGest internally when I feel nauseous or when my bowels are moving faster than they should if you know what I mean. I like to blend a drop in a 1/2 teaspoon of honey and then mix that into a cup of boiled hot water so that I can sip on the mixture like a tea. I find it instantly soothing. Friends with IBS have also had great success with making this "tea."
The science behind ZenGest's effectiveness makes sense. Peppermint, ginger and fennel are well-known by many as essential oils that are helpful with relaxing the smooth muscle of the bowels. Peppermint essential oil has been used internally for a long time to support and soothe those with tummy troubles such as IBS.
If you or someone you know struggles with IBS, heartburn/reflux or any other issues like this, let me know if you want to try a sample. I'm happy to help!
